Youth Mass

In Galway, for some time now, a youth mass has been held every fortnight on Sunday evenings. This mass was initially intended for secondary school students but has attracted a wide variety of young people and, very importantly - families.

This is something that is not terribly difficult to organise and might be a good idea for your group - especially if you are looking for a regular activity - in fact, without a regular activity it is difficult to sustain a group and almost impossible to attract new members because people who join something do so with the reasonable expectation that it is a group that actually does something.

Kevin, from Galway, has been involved with the youth mass since its inception. This is what he says about it:
"We kept everything very simple, the young people were asked to do the readings and bring up the gifts, they were also asked to join with us in the music group/choir, we have 4 musicians, guitar, piano, flute and drum, and about 5-7 singers. We provided the music for all parts of the mass. The congregation were very good at joining in with the singing."
