Chapter News

Monday was the day that the youth commission made our presentation to the chapter. Niall from Drogheda, Conal from Ballyboden and Noel from Ballyboden joined together and gave a presentation that covered many topics. Noel presented some of the theory underlying youth ministry. He mentioned the fact that youth ministry is not just about providing activities for young people but also, and perhaps more importantly, it is about preparing young people to take their place in the Church as ministers to others. He also outlined the differing needs of different age groups.
Niall spoke about the formation of the new Core Team and also about the pilgrimage to Italy. He pointed out the fact that many of those who travelled are seeking opportunities for prayer and spirituality. He stressed the value of the pilgrimage as a faith experience. He also told the Augustinians about the fact that there is a significant group of young people who are interested in being involved in the Augustinian Youth Ministry.
Conal spoke about our plans for the future. He referred to a retreat, a training workshop and also to the international meeting which will take place in London in 2010. He challenged the Augustinians to step up to the plate and support the young people who want to be involved.
The presentation was extremely well received by the assembled friars and certainly gave them a lot to think about.
Well done to all involved.
